When you buy a new hard drive (hdd) to use it, you need to partition, divide the drive to install windows or format it for the operating system to recognize the hard drive. Partitioning the hard drive has a lot of software support: split the drive with the Windows installation disc, split the drive with the software Acronis Disk Director Suite… I would like to show you how to partition a hard drive simply with pictures.
To partition the hard drive you must have a hiren boot disk or a USB boot with hiren boot integrated in it. The two hard drive partitioning software I use often and find the best are: Partition Magis Pro 8.05 and Paragon Partition Manager Server 7.0.
To get into these two software, let the device boot with a bootable drive or usb and follow the path Dos program -> Partition Tools -> More (depending on the hiren boot version that has “more” or not, you just go to find the right program.)
+ Split the drive with Partition Magic Pro software
Open the program up and press enter continuously to enter the software (if you see an error on the hard drive in the form of an error and yellow, it cannot be divided, switch to using Paragon) And start dividing as follows.
_Step 1: Select the hard drive you want to split if the machine is using 2 or more hard drives. Then right-click the hard drive you want to split and click create. Or go to Operations (use Alt + O also).
_Step 2: A new window opens, you choose the partition type as primary to install win, or logical to save data, choose the format for the partition is NTFS, don’t use FAT 32 (because it’s old and not good. with NTFS). Choose how much capacity then click OK to finish.
_Step 3: After partitioning the Primary drive, in order to install win or ghost win, you must Set Active that partition. To set active partition, right click on the advenced partition -> set active. Or go to Operations as shown above (Because I use a virtual machine, and take a screenshot, I can’t use the right mouse button :D).
_Step 4: Similar to dividing the logical drive to save data, you right-click on the remaining space and do the same as step 2, but in the Create as section, we choose Logical partition.
_Step 5: After dividing the drive is complete. You look at the picture above to see if the drive is active. As shown on the hard drive I have 65G. The main partition is 30G active, the extended partition is 35G to save data, depending on the large or small capacity hard drive, you can divide more logical drives. Note that you should choose only 1 primary partition so that later on, ghost win looks easy to distinguish. Finally, click Apply, select yes and wait for the partitioning program to finish and restart the computer to complete.
+ Partition the hard drive with Paragon Partition Manager Server software: I often use this software because it has few errors. This software is also used to fix mbr errors after ghost cannot enter win.
_Step 1: Start the program up, the software interface opens, you select the hard drive to split if there are 2 or more drives, if you use 1 drive, leave it as is. Then click the partition tab (or Alt + P ) -> create. Or right-click the drive to be divided and click create to create a partition.
Step 2: A new window opens, select the same as partition magic pro, follow the image below.
Step 3: A new window opens, select the file system type (partition format) as NTFS and name the partition and then click ok.
_Step 4: So the primary partition has been divided, but to install, ghost win needs to be set active by right-clicking on that partition and selecting modify -> set active. Or highlight that partition and then do as shown below.

_Step 5: Continue to partition with the remaining space of the hard drive, but this time choose extended. Right-click the remaining space -> create and do as shown below.
_Step 6: Extended drive manages logical, so creating extended hard drive is not partitioned yet. You see below the extende has a logical partition. Right click on it and create an extended partition like steps 2 and 3.
_Step 7: After the division is complete, it will be as shown below, also with the main and extended partition (in win will see drive C and D), the drive installed win has been active. And you click the Apply button in the lower left corner after the division is complete.
