People who self-learn to fix hardware, or learn online often have difficult conditions, just like me before. So buying tools to fix hardware is still apprehensive, not knowing which one to buy, which one is more necessary. Understanding that, I guide novices in the necessary tools to fix computer hardware.
Computer hardware repair is generally simple if you have the right tools + a little knowledge of how it works. Tools such as: torch, soldering iron, meter, tongs.
+ Soldering iron: This is probably the first important thing, because it uses a lot of soldering wire, replacing capacitors, removing the ic too. The soldering iron should be about 65W or 90W. I use a 90w wooden handle, have used it for 3 years and haven’t broken it, just need to replace the soldering iron and buy about 5k instead. Please note that the soldering iron is only used for soldering lead, not soldering plastic or wires, it will damage the soldering iron. This soldering iron buys about 40K.
+ Torch: There are many brands of torches, if you have the conditions to buy a Quick 858 torch for about 1 million 4, it’s best to use it, but if you don’t have the conditions, you can use Atten’s torch. I use this Atten 858D torch with a standard temperature display, the torch rarely dies and is also durable, I’ve been using this for 2 years. The current price of this machine is about 680-700k depending on where it is sold.
+ VOM meter: This is the 3rd most important tool, it helps me to measure the continuity, check the short of the mosfet, measure the voltage of the ram, cpu, chipset, check the discharge of the capacitor. VOM watches also have many types and prices are also different. There are analog and digital watches, so use an analog clock that is not as accurate as a digital clock, but it can be measured quickly.
This Samwa YX-360TRe watch, I bought 120k and used it for 5 years and it has not been damaged, just need to change the battery to use it ok. Please pay attention to use a meter if measuring DC voltage, then adjust to DC voltage. If you measure the DC voltage and rotate it into the ohm scale, the meter will be damaged.
+ Main test source: The main test source should use good sources like Acbel, Cooler Master… Because of normal use, every time the mainboard is shorted, the source is short, this I suffer a lot. And the source should have a switch behind to turn it on and off quickly. If you can’t buy a good source, you can get the source from the pentium3 and pentium 4 machines of HP, DELL… these types are very durable, but need to add a 12v jack for cpu voltage. Take this jack from a normal source then solder to the 12v yellow pin and the ground pin is okay (because the old machine source does not have a 12v jack).
+ Test tools: These tools need additional tools such as ic tongs, soldering openers, lead wires. Ram should have 3 bars for 3 types such as ddr1, ddr2, ddr3, cpu should have socket 478 and 775 cpu.
Those are the necessary tools for basic hardware repair. In addition, if you intend to replace male chips, make male chip pins, you need to buy more mesh for male chips, infrared lights, ball lead, lead wire.
