Convert VGA to share on Acer 8730G

Hi guys!

us.tenban.net would like to share with you how to convert discrete VGA to share on Acer 8730G using 2.5 Ghz T9300 cpu, 6M cache, 800Mhz bus. 18.4-inch screen, using PM45G northbridge and video card HD4670 (216-0728014).

To switch back to VGA share, we need to replace the Northbridge PM45 chip with the  GL40 or GM45 chip. In the article, I will replace it with a north chip GL40, if possible, replace the GM45 to run better. Because the  GL40 only supports Ram upto 4Gb and cpu bus 800 or less  (running its old CPU T9300 has no effect). Meanwhile, GM45 supports up to 8Gb ram and up to 1066 cpu.

To convert to vga share you need to have

Perseverance.
Connect resistors RN44 and RN45 so that the 27Mhz clock goes to the CLK block in the North chip to stimulate its graphics capabilities. As we see in discrete VGA cards on the desktop there is always a 27Mhz quartz next to the GPU.

  2. The most important is the 1.05v power supply for GFXCore (temporarily understood as the source for the integrated graphics processing core in the North chip). Here we will spend a lot of 0 resistors to connect the circuit and besides we have to remove some unnecessary 0 resistors. Everything on the diagram is written, nothing to worry about. For example: When we have not removed the R100, measure the 2 capacitors on the back of the GL40, it is 0 Ω like touching. This is the source GFX Core.
  3. When we remove the capacitor R100, the chip’s back has a resistance of 21 Ω. People are fighting down to the ground for the purpose of not supplying power to the graphics processing unit because the North PM45 chip does not have this function.
Change the position R163 to R327 (area pin 73 of IO 775L) and add R182 with a value of 0 ohms so that IO understands that the machine is using shared VGA, not discrete VGA. We don’t need to worry about the problem of reloading the BIOS for it.

In short: Converting VGA to share is a very simple process that any technician can do. Most of the time finding the resistor and soldering it requires patience. We just need to open the circuit diagram, where there is the word UMA we find the component to install, where there is the word DIS we remove the component. And finally we will have a motherboard that uses VGA share entirely. If you know your hands, look at the diagram well, one day we can switch VGA from 2-3 different machines.

That’s how to convert video card to share for Acer 8730G that I have done successfully. Have fun guys.
