Replace vga – ps2 – usb port for mainboard

On the mainboard, it is common to encounter errors of VGA connector, USB port, PS2 mouse key port. The cause is due to long-term use, loose, rusted or because the user pulls too hard, causing the foot to fall off. This case looks easy to change on the surface, but it is actually complicated.

I have instructed many people but almost can’t do it because removing these ports is too difficult. Now I write a post to replace the vga – ps2 – usb port for the mainboard with more detailed instructions, I practice replacing the ps2 port for the Asus P5KPL AM -SE mainboard, the other ports also do the same, but on the mainboard this port is most often affected. Because the keys and mouse are removed a lot, they are loose.

The necessary tools to replace the ps2 port:

Welding torch, should use a 90w soldering iron, big torch to get it quickly. Or you can use a DC welder
Thermometer

+ How to remove the ps2 port on the mainboard

First, you plug in the soldering iron to make it hot, turn on the torch and remember to remove the torch head.
Put solder, lead on the back of the ps2 port and combine the soldering iron and torch to remove.
Leave the torch in place, and the soldering iron will move around the pins of the ps2 gong.
Just do this and gently press down for the ps2 port to fall out, pay attention not to press too hard, or pull too hard to bend the board, break the circuit, it will not be replaced.

+Put lead on the mainboard’s PS2 port

After taking out the ps2 port, the lead is still stuck in the sockets, you have to suck the lead out to attach the ps2 port.
Use a lead sucker on the top and a soldering iron on the bottom.
Place the soldering iron right at the base of the suction rod, wait for the thread to melt and press the button on the lead to suck. See the picture below, pull out all the holes, put some solder grease in it to make it faster.

+Attach the new PS2 port to the motherboard:

After removing all the lead from the mainboard, you should clean it.
Use a PS2 port taken from another mainboard, remember to remove all the lead on the ps2 port that needs to be replaced to insert it into the hole.
Plug the PS2 port into the holes on the mainboard then put the lead and solder paste to solder.

Clean and plug in the ps2 port to check.

That’s how to replace the ps2 port for the mainboard, it looks simple but it’s also a bit difficult, you just have to work hard a few times to get used to it. The important thing here is a good soldering iron, combined with a torch is very fast, without a torch is fine, but it takes a little while, good luck!
