Dell laptops used for a long time often generate an error that requires pressing the F1 key to continue booting. There are many reasons for this error message, it may be due to the CMOS battery running out, the charger IC error causing the device to not charge or the adapter error. Here, I would like to guide you how to handle Dell laptops that require pressing the new F1 key to enter Windows most often.
Error identification signs
Start the laptop and stop at the DOS screen with the message
The AC power adapter Wattage and type cannot be determined.
The battery may not charge.
The system will adjust the performance to match the power available.
Please connect a Dell 65W ( 90W, 130W ) adapter or greater for the best system performance.
Strike the F3 key (before F1 or F2 key) if you do not want to see power warning message again.
Strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to run the setup utility.
This message line roughly translates as: Adapter provides insufficient capacity, cannot charge the battery. Requires the use of a 65W (or 90W, 130W) charger. Press the F1 key to continue entering Windows or press the F2 key to enter the BIOS settings.
Reason
Because the adapter is used for a long time, there is a voltage drop, a decrease in capacity, or because of using a batch adapter (not genuine). Adapter accounts for 90% of errors stopping at this DOS screen.
Laptop battery used for a long time has a battery bottle or because the contact between the battery and the battery jack on the mainboard of the laptop is not good. Leads to not being able to charge, should report an error.
Due to the error of the charger IC on the laptop mainboard, the machine cannot be charged.
Treatment
1. Remove the battery and start the laptop with the adapter. If the machine does not require pressing the F1 or F2 key, the cause is the battery. There are 3 cases:
– Due to bad contact between battery and mainboard. Clean the contacts on the motherboard and the battery. Then insert the battery and try again to see if the error is gone or not.
-Because the battery is damaged, it must be replaced with a new battery, this cause is also common if the adapter is still good.
– Due to IC charger error, but this case is very rare. Normally, the charger IC error, the machine still goes straight to Windows (no F1 error) but cannot charge the battery.
2. If the battery is removed, it still shows F1 error, the reason is that the charger does not provide enough capacity for the machine to operate. In this case, it is necessary to buy a new genuine Dell Adapter and match the capacity of that machine or maybe higher.
In addition, if we do not want to change the charger, we can turn off that warning by:
Start the laptop >> press F2 to enter BIOS settings >> go to the advanced tab >> Adapter Warnings
>> select Disabled. Press F10 to save the Bios.
Now you can enter the device without pressing the F1 key, but there are some machines that need to completely remove the battery to get in. Because I just turned off the notification, but the charger was faulty and could not charge the battery. This is only a temporary fix. If possible, you should buy a genuine Dell charger to use. Wish success.
Trong lúc khởi động máy thì mình lỡ bấm phím f1 sau đó thì máy tắt và không khởi động lại được nữa.. Phải làm sao để khắc phục ạ
