Introduction to the torch machine and its uses

The torch is an indispensable item for hardware repairmen. The torch is used to remove ICs, Mosfets, or even can be used to remake the male chip pins. To help newcomers know how to use, how to get IC so as not to die. I would like to introduce the torch machine and its uses.

On the current market, there are many different quality torch machines such as:  Quick, Atten,  ProTool… With prices ranging from 600 to 1 million 5. With temperature, heat, and wind display functions. If you don’t have the conditions, buy the Atten for about 800 and it’s fine.

1. Outer shape of the torch.

  • Heat hand.
    Clock shows temperature.
    Wind knob.
    High and low temperature knobs.

Shape and functions of the Atten 858D torch2. Uses of heat dryers.

Remove and close components from the mainboard or into the circuit board.
Drying, creating IC pins, cleaning the mainboard.

3. Structure of the heat torch.

+ Heat generator

The heat generator is responsible for creating the right heat to melt the lead to help separate and mount components on the main board safely.

+ Wind Generator

The wind generator in the torch is responsible for providing the right pressure to push the temperature into the underside of the component, making the time to take out the components short and convenient.

4. How to use the torch machine

+ Notes

Components must be shielded near the torch point.
Isolate the plastic parts from the mainboard.
If there is a battery on the motherboard, the camera must be removed.
Limit torch near capacitors to avoid dangerous capacitor explosion.

+ How to remove IC with a torch

* Remove components (IC, resistor paste, diode paste, transistor paste, mosfet paste …)

Sit in a comfortable position with your non-dominant hand holding the torch, adjust the temperature and wind accordingly. Usually I set the maximum wind and temperature to about 350.
Use turpentine, soldering plastic evenly on the component legs.
Choosing the right torch for the components to be taken, choosing too big or too small is also very difficult to get or kill the IC.
Place the torch perpendicular to the component to be removed, rotate the torch evenly to limit the contact of components around the component to be removed.
Dry evenly until the lead on the foot of the component needs to be removed evenly. Use tweezers to move slightly when the component moves, use tweezers to pick it up.

* Install components (IC, paste resistor, paste diode, paste transistor, paste mosfet …)

Clean contacts where components need to be placed.
Put a little bit of turpentine in the contact area so that the lead can flow evenly.
Use tweezers to pick up components to adjust the foot of the component to the place of contact.
Torch evenly when the lead ball, the contacts are correct then stop.
Note:  Make sure it is safe to use the torch. Avoid drying for a long time to kill components

That’s it, I wish you success, in general, using a torch machine is also simple. If you are willing to do it for a while, you will get used to it. It’s okay to move your hand evenly.
